How important is the Uncertainty value?
This is a very important matter because our team visited a customer's factory last week. The auditor opened the certificate, looked at it, and pointed to a small number, asking, 'What is this value?' At that moment, the QA team was completely silent.
Here’s the answer: the number is the Uncertainty value.
From the experience of the TMC team,
many organizations have their instruments calibrated properly but are unable to explain the Uncertainty value.
Even though this number is one of the key points auditors pay close attention to because Uncertainty reflects the level of doubt in measurement results.
It means that even if the instruments are calibrated, every measurement result
must have an 'acceptable range of deviation.'
The Uncertainty value, therefore, indicates
'How reliable this measurement result is.'
Auditors do not only look at the weight figure but also check whether the Uncertainty value is appropriate for its use and consistent with the instrument’s precision, because if the instrument is used for quality control but the Uncertainty is too high, the auditor may immediately ask,
'Is this weighing result sufficient for decision-making?'
Another important point that many factories unknowingly miss:
many times we encounter instruments And another important point that many factories unknowingly overlook:
Many times we encounter situations where the equipment has been calibrated and the certificate is correct, but the equipment chosen is not suitable for the job.
As a result, the Uncertainty value on the document does not correspond to the level of accuracy required by the process, and it becomes an unnecessary issue during an Audit.
This is why many organizations choose to consult with the TMC team, because we don’t just calibrate instruments, we also help explain the calibration results and provide recommendations for appropriate Uncertainty values that align with actual usage and calibration (Audit) across various industries over many decades.
If any organization wants to check the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments to ensure product quality in the most efficient way, as well as to prepare for calibration (Audit), you can contact Thai Metrology Calibration Co., Ltd.
