Video Measuring Microscope คือ เครื่องมือวัดขนาดชิ้นงานแบบละเอียดชนิดแสงและเงาแบบ 2 มิติ หรือ เครื่องมือวัดตรวจสอบชิ้นงานอย่างละเอียด โดยจะแสดงเป็นชนิดแสงเงา เป็นเครื่องวัดชิ้นงานที่มีความแม่นยำสูง ด้วยหลักการ การใช้เลนขยายและใช้แสงเป็นตัวช่วยในการฉายภาพ 2 มิติ ของชิ้นงานนั้น ๆ สามารถ วัดพื้นผิว (surface) ,วัดรูปร่าง (contour) และวัดความลึก (Depth) (โดยใช้แกน X,Y,Z) และจะแสดงผลผ่าน software สามารถประมวลผลออกมาในรูปแบบ Report, drawing และนอกจากนี้ยังสามารถถ่ายรูปชิ้นงานแล้วเก็บข้อมูลต่างๆไว้ในคอมพิวเตอร์ได้ ทำให้เครื่อง Video Measuring Microscope (VMM) สามารถส่องขยายวัดชิ้นงานนั้น ๆ ได้ใหญ่ขึ้น กว้างขึ้น และชัดขึ้น ที่สำคัญแม่นยำกว่าและสามารถอ่านค่าความละเอียดได้ถึง 0.0005 ไมคอน
